Note this child's blue schlera. This occurs in a condition called osteogenesis imperfecta or fragilitas osseum. These patients have very brittle bones due to a lack of collagen. They usually present with a history of multiple fractures which unite, but often result in deformities. The younger the age of onset of osteogenesis imperfecta, the more severe is the disease likely to be.
